Membership Opportunities
|
Wing, Squadron, or Detachment Membership Wing, Squadron, or Detachment memberships are entirely optional once you are a CAF Colonel, and greatly enhances your experience with the CAF. Becoming a Unit member puts you where the action is... close to the aircraft or their operations. Many Colonels choose to join more than one Unit. Wings and Squadrons are assigned the responsibilities of maintaining the CAF's aircraft. Detachments are responsible for various disciplines within the CAF, such as Marshalling, Security, Communications, Medical, or Explosives Ordnance. To be a member of a Wing, Squadron, or Detachment, you must first be a CAF Colonel or Life Member. Unit membership dues vary depending on the Unit. Average dues are $25.00 to $50.00 per year and are paid directly to the Unit. As a Unit member, you may receive additional privileges, such as Unit Newsletters or Unit-assigned aircraft crew opportunities. Contact Headquarters for information on Units in your area. Or contact Webmaster or Wing Leader regarding becoming a member of the Gulf Coast Wing/Tora! Group. Ghost Squadron Associate As an alternative to full CAF membership, you may become a Ghost Squadron Associate for $38.00 per year. You will receive the quarterly magazine Dispatch, a membership card and free admission to the American Airpower Heritage Museum. CAF Cadets (Age 13 thru 23) Cadet memberships are $45.00 per year. You will receive a Cadet name badge, Cadet wings, and CAF T-shirt, monthly newsletter Contrails, quarterly magazine Dispatch, free admission to the American Airpower Heritage Museum, Gift Shop discounts, certificate and membership card. American Airpower Heritage Museum The AAHM, the museum of the Commemorative Air Force, is located on the 75 acre CAF Headquarters complex in Midland, Texas. The museum is internationally recognized for its collection of authentic World War II artifacts and memorabilia, including uniforms of Allied and Axis countries, armament, photographs, weapons, equipment and aircraft. As part of the museum tour, visitors can see aircraft on display in the CAF hangar. The 14-20 aircraft on display change quarterly, so there's always something different to see. A research library and archives house a significant oral history collection and give the public access to the museum's abundant information resources. These CAF facilities provide students, teachers, historians and the community at large with educational and summer programs, tours, special events and international lecture series. |
